Holiday Headphone Shopping Guide 2012
The holiday season is fast approaching and gift ideas will often be needed. One of the best gifts you can give a person this year is a good set of headphones. Anyone would love to receive this as a gift since it can be used with various audio devices. Whether you are going to give this as to a man or a woman it will make a great present
Before you rush into a store to buy a headphone you must first know the difference between the various types available. This is to make sure that you buy the correct type for the person you will be giving it to.
Over-the-ear
This is also often referred to as full size headphones. This type reproduces the sound more accurately and is more effective in blocking out external noise when compared to other types. People who love low bass sounds will feel at home with this type.
Ear Pads
This type is also called the closed back headphones. These are semi-open headphones that are lighter than the over the ear type. The sound quality can be good however it doesn’t have the noise isolating feature of the over the ear type.
Ear Buds
This is also referred to as the in-ear headphones and is most popularly used with mobile gadgets such as smartphones or portable music players. The sound quality will vary with different manufacturers from bad to excellent. Sound reproduction is at par with other types however the bass part is sorely lacking.
Noise Cancelling
This type of headphone uses a microphone, speaker and electronic circuit to cancel noise out. Each sound has a wave pattern and when you create an exact opposing wave of the background sound it will be cancelled out. The microphone picks up background noise while the electronic circuit produces the opposing wave of the sound.
Wireless
This headphone offers you the freedom to move around without having to worry about wires getting tangled. It is usually powered by a rechargeable battery and uses Bluetooth technology to connect to your smartphone, laptop or any compatible audio device.
DJ Headphones
These headphones are designed to be more robust and durable. You will notice that the earpieces can swivel so the DJ can listen to the music and listen to the crowd at the same time.
When buying a headphone you should consider several factors first. You can’t just go into a store and pick the first one you like because the color looks great. There are several factors to consider first before you make a purchase.

Brings back memories. I wish I had owned one of these bforee Creative patent-trolled Aureal into oblivion. Between that and their drivers causing hardlocks on the dual processor machine I was doing animation work on (back when you had to have more than one chip to run SMP) I decided to start boycotting creative. I’m only one person but I have happily lost them at least 200 sales over the years. Hopefully some day another company tries to really advance the field again so the biggest change over the next 10 years isn’t me seeing an ad for new 13.1 surround
