Guide To Building Your First Budget Home Theater System
There’s this misconception that having a home theater system installed in your place is going to cost a lot of money. This may be true in most cases if you go with high end equipment. With technology evolving and prices of most home consumer equipment
dropping fast, you can now build your first budget home theater system for less than $1000.
In a nutshell a home theater system is the combination of audio and video equipment that aims to bring a theater like experience in your home. There are basically three components needed for this system namely the display, media player and the speakers.
Display
You can use a projector or an HDTV as your display. Since we are on a budget then a good HDTV is our best option. Some things to consider when choosing this are
- Screen size ( 40 inches and above)
- Resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels capable of full HD 1080p output)
- Refresh rate (100 Hz or 200 Hz)
Other value added features you might want to consider in a display are if it can connect to the Internet or capable of supporting 3D.
Our top choice for a display is the LG 47″ 1080p 120Hz LED HDTV 47LS4500. It’s priced at $660 by most online retailers. This particular model has all the right features to make viewing movies in your home enjoyable.
Media Player, Speakers
To save even further in our set-up we have to choose the home theater in a box. This system already includes a media player and the speakers. Some features to consider are listed below
- Does it come with DVD or Blu-Ray support
- 5. 1 or 7. 1 channel speaker system?
- Power rating
True audiophiles will want to have a separate audio video receiver, media player and speaker system which tends to be quite costly. Choosing a home theater in a box will not degrade your viewing or listening experience and will even save you a lot of money.
One home theater in a box you can choose is the Samsung HT-E4500 1000W 5.1-Channel 3D Smart Blu-ray Home Theater System which costs $240. Its Blu-Ray player is 3D capable and is also backwards compatible with a DVD or CD. You will also be getting one center speaker, four satellite speakers and one sub-woofer that are rated at 1000 watts.
The total cost for this system is $900 which is well below our $1000 price range. If you want to save even more you can choose to buy refurbished equipment which, while not brand new, can also provide you with the same viewing experience.
Setting up this system is easy since it already comes with everything you may need. You only need to connect the cable wires properly and if you need help you can easily consult the user manual.
Aside from setting up your system you also need comfortable chairs to fully enjoy the movie.
Almost anyone can now afford to have a home theater system installed in their homes. The availability of different options for consumers to choose from and the lower prices of equipment have made this possible.
